A Tale of three Triptychs : part one

A year ago I spent a week in Sarasota, Florida with my daughter Gina. She was taking art classes at Ringling College of Art & Design to kind of test the waters to see if she might like to attend college there. I had made arrangements to rent a home and when I told our host that I was hoping to make art while I was in Sarasota he was excited and told me that he had some canvases that I could use while I was there. Well that was just what I needed to get the ball rolling. His act of kindness inspired me to paint a triptych that would reflect the fresh flowers in the kitchen and match the other paintings  his house. This was the first large painting I had made in quite a while and it gave me great pleasure to make it and my host was also very pleased to receive it. While I was there I also began another painting. It was a a fruitful week. On our way home we stopped and visited with my Aunt Eva.During our conversation I mentioned my completed flower triptych which I left back in Sarasota. “Would you like to see pictures?” I asked. “Sure!” she replied and when she saw them she exclaimed,”That is what I want in my dining room! Could you paint me a version that matches my condo?”And that is how the second triptych started!

The one that got me jump started.

Joy comes in the Morning

Satisfy us in the morning with your steadfast love, that we may rejoice and be glad all our days.

Morning Run in Gettysburg
Morning Run in Gettysburg

I love running for many reasons.  One reason is the way it makes me slow down long enough to see the beauty around me. Sometimes I will grab the phone and take a picture to help remember a taste of what I saw that day.

Creating art is another way that I slow down and notice. And although sometimes I get frustrated in the process in the end I rejoice and am glad for the gift of creativity that the Lord has given.

This was something I started working on while my daughter was preparing for her Senior prom. It was a warm morning and the nail salon was hopping with customers  waiting for their pre sandal pedicure. I was combing through my sketchbook and found this verse that I had jotted down on Christmas Day.  Again in the midst of a very stressful spring God brought this verse to me again. I used some zentangle patterns and then made up my own as well.
Sunday I finished it and was so happy to have made a little something . A promise for more to come. Now the time is coming. Four more days of school for me this year. I am excited to see what the summer will bring.

Proverbs 1:7

Happy New Year! Yes, I know that it is February 15th but it is the first day of my new Bible reading plan! This year I am reading the Proverbs and the Psalms as my daily devotional. I have been looking forward to starting this for over a month but I had to finish my last reading plan before venturing out on a new one.I am also going to but a more focused effort on including blog posts of my visual meditations on the Psalms and Proverbs. Whenever I read those books I always have pictures in my head so with some discipline some of those pictures will make it to this blog. These really are more like sketches than final works of art so enjoy as such and feel free to share if you feel led; just don’t charge anything! LOL
